Farmplan’s Business Manager software is ready for Making Tax Digital with latest update now live

Our 2019 release of Business Manager, our flagship accounts and farm business management software solution, is now available to download.

With Making Tax Digital (MTD) looming on the horizon, we have updated our software to allow you to make MTD VAT submissions directly to HMRC.

Most businesses and landlords with turnovers in excess of the VAT threshold (currently £85,000) will have to keep digital records and submit VAT returns digitally from the first complete VAT return period starting after 1st April 2019, so our latest update is fully compliant with the upcoming change in legislation.

We have had beta testers trialling the new digital VAT return since October 2018 and all testers have been positive regarding our software’s compatibility with the upcoming MTD legislation.

Carol Butcher, a Business Manager user from O.W.Wortley & Sons Ltd in Norfolk, said: “We submitted our VAT return via our Farmplan software and the whole process went very smoothly with no issues at all.”

Ibolya Read, a Business Manager user as an Outsourced Financial Controller from 8020 Financial Management, Lincolnshire, added: “From Farmplan Business Manager’s point of view, it is a smooth process. The literature is great and easy to follow, and producing and submitting the VAT return works quickly and easily – we submitted directly from our figures in Business Manager, without any additional changes!”

Other notable new features in this latest update include a link with third party application Receipt Bank, which allows you to import pre-code transactions from scanned documents, emails and a companion mobile phone app.

Business Manager is now compatible with Outlook 2019 for batch emailing documents, while we have also made the ‘Create Autosetup’ module available to all users. This allows the creation of a set of template files that is based on the existing enterprise and heading code structure within the current business (dataset) that can then be used to create the coding structure in a new business. This would be advantageous, for example, if you wish to re-setup your existing business,  perhaps to change the year start of the business or have another business with a similar enterprise and heading code structure.

The autosetup templates have also been adapted to provide additional information for future MTD changes.
