A Brighter Future for Farming and our Countryside

A Brighter Future for Farming and our Countryside

Farmplan will be attending a Defra consultation workshop on Thursday 29 March, organised in partnership with The Yorkshire Food, Farming and Rural Network & The Yorkshire Agricultural Society. The aim of the event is to give interested members of the general public, specifically farmers and land owners, an opportunity to share their views on future farming policy as the UK prepares to leave the EU and the Common Agricultural Policy.

From 20 March – 30 April, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is organising a series of events across the country to capture local viewpoints on its public consultation: ‘Health and Harmony: the future for food, farming and the environment’.

Event attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear from Defra officials about the Government’s proposals for the future of farming
  • Express their views and aspirations for the future of farming in the UK
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to help shape policy proposals
  • Gain an understanding of the consultation process and how it feeds into the upcoming Agriculture Bill

“Agriculture contributes less than 0.5% to the UKs economy, but provides 50% of the food we eat, employs 500,000 people and is an integral part of the food and drink sector which contributed £112bn to the economy in 2016. It is Farmers and Land Managers who manage 72% of the UKs land, and through them we can safeguard our natural environment and ensure the highest standards of animal and plant health”.  – The future farming and environment evidence compendium Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs.

Piers Costley, Farmplan Director adds, “Farming is an integral part of the UK’s economy and landscape, we should all play our part in events like this to voice concerns, help shape policy and keep informed of developments in farming across the country, particularly as we move towards a new Agriculture Bill.”

The event we are attending is taking place at:
