Precision farming is very much the focus at Brooker Farms where Andrew Cragg manages the 600Ha holding which lies within the Romney Marsh area. The land is predominantly silty clay loam and falls within an NVZ which offers a number of challenges and opportunities for precision farming.

ScotMoves:From 4th October 2021 cattle birth, death and movement notifications in Scotland will be submitted through ScotMoves instead of BCMS. Farmplan has been working hard behind the scenes to makes the necessary changes to its livestock platforms in order to facilitate this, making this process as straightforward as possible for customers.

Wynn Owen has been working as a farming administrator for the National Trust farm Hafod y Llan in Snowdonia for over 6 years. The farm extends to over 2500 acres with 4900 acres farmed in hand in total. The farm currently has 40 pedigree Welsh black cattle and just under 2000 Welsh Mountain sheep, ewes and lambs.
Using the animal record card feature, Wynn is able to track animal pedigree back up to five generations. “As the cattle we have here are all pedigree Welsh Black, we find the ability to track the family tree very useful. In particular we monitor the bull used and assess success rates and progeny.”
White Pond Farm, run by the Stacey family, consists of 520 acres, rented from five different landlords, 290 of these are down to grass which is grazed by the suckler herd consisting of 80 Aberdeen Angus and Belgian Blue cows.
“We can manage the cattle much better because more information is readily available and in so many different formats. Keeping track of cattle has become simpler. We are able to create batches and I never get behind from reporting births and movements to BCMS as I can send them by a couple of clicks from the mouse.”
